Sadly Bertine is out of the match play after today's match

Sydney’s Liz Elmassian won into the quarter-finals of the Australian Amateur Championship today in extraordinary circumstances.

Playing on her home course at The Australian, the bubbly Elmassian played the ninth hole, the last of regulation, 1-up and knocked her birdie putt to close range and earning a conceded par four from opponent Jaclyn Lee.

Bertine qualifies for match play in Australia

South Africa's Bertine Strauss was the only member of Team SA to qualify for the Match play after she finished tied 7th in the 36 holes stroke play qualifying rounds. She took on H Choi of South Korea and beat her 5/4.

Bertine will take on the 23rd seed, Yumi Matsubara, tomorrow at 12.16 Sydney time. Wishing Bertine all the best for her match tomorrow and keep up the great golf.

Australian match play after round one

There might not have been many flying the flag, but the Aussie girls did it proudly to begin the Australian Amateur Championship matchplay today.

While only 11 of the 32 qualifiers were Australian, six advanced to the top 16 with Perth’s Hannah Green the standout performer.

Green, 18, didn’t play her best golf in qualifying 27th for the matchplay, but she more than made amends today, dispatching high-flying Chinese prodigy Lei Ye 6-&-5 with authority.
