Girls love Golf Day 27th November Houghton Golf Club

The following young ladies attended our final Girls Love Golf Tournament for 2011, which was held at Houghton Golf Course:

  • Caitlyn Mcnab (9yrs) – 26 Handicap,
  • Cara Ford (10yrs) – 29 Handicap,
  • Olivia Olsson (13yrs) – 33 Handicap,
  • Mbali (17yrs),
  • Maja Joost (8yrs),
  • Rebecca (8yrs),
  • Tshepeng Tshepeng (17yrs)

The format played was a four ball alliance with two scores to count. The first team consisted of Caithlyn Mcnab, Cara Ford, Olivia Olsson and Mbali and Maja Jost, Rebecca Sinner and Tshepeng Tshepeng made up the second team, with Caitlyn as pivot.

At first there was great anticipation and a bit of nerves with the second team as they were non-handicappers and for some it was quite a daunting task to play 18 holes.  By the time they reached the 5th tee-box, Maja, Rebecca and Tshepeng had settled in and were starting to enjoy and understand the rules and etiquette of golf.  Meanwhile our first group of golfers showed great maturity and sportsmanship as they began to tackle the course.

Congratulations to Caitlyn Mcnab carded 92/41 at the end of the day with Cara Ford 104/28 and Olivia Olsson 107/29.  It was wonderful to see how well they performed on the day as well as it was great to see the improvement in their game.  I hope that it will carry over to some of the young girls that attend the Girls Love Golf events.

The runners up were Maja, Rebecca, Tshepeng and Caitlyn (pivot) with a total of 72 points, which was a magnificent effort considering that for most it was their first event.  The team of Caitlyn, Cara, Olivia and Mbali won the day on 88 points.  Congratulations to the winners but most importantly to all our contestants for taking part and supporting Girls Love Golf.

On behalf of Ladies Golf Gauteng (Girls Love Golf), I would like to thank the managements at Houghton Golf Course and Royal Johannesburg & Kensington for their support in assisting us to develop and promote the game of golf amongst junior girls.  Thank you also to the parents who bring the players to our events and at times walk the course or caddy.  To Mrs Valda Ford, a special thank you for her assistance and support during some of our events in 2011.

To the young ladies that have taken part, especially Cara Ford, Caitlyn Mcnab and Sarah Bouch (who have attended a majority of our 2011 events), Ladies Golf Gauteng THANK YOU for coming along and bringing with you the enthusiasm to learn and play the game of golf.  To those girls that have just started I hope that you will continue to play and most importantly, please make sure that you hand your cards in so that you can begin working on your handicap.

We wish you all the best for the holidays and look forward to seeing you in 2012.
